History

 

International Breweries Limited was incorporated in December 1971, by founder and pioneer Chairman, Dr. Lawrence Omole.
The company commenced production of its flagship beer, Trophy lager in December 1978 with an installed capacity of 200,000 hectoliters per annum.With increasing popularity of Trophy, demand surged and by December 1982, the company embarked on a drive to expand its capacity to 500,000 hectoliters annually.  

Going Public

International Breweries was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in April, 1995.
In 2008, erstwhile majority shareholders, the Warsteiner Group, sold its shareholding to the Castel Group. By January 2012, the then SABMiller entered into a strategic alliance with the Castel Group. Significant investment was made in this period, transforming the organization and providing it with a solid foundation for more growth and profitability.

Merger with the erstwhile Intafact Beverages Limited and Pabod Breweries Limited

In 2017, the company, through a scheme of merger sanctioned by the Federal High Court, merged with Intafact Beverages Limited and Pabod Breweries Limited, in order to provide for the optimization of efficiencies, leverage on economies of scale as well as optimized shareholder value. . Starting with just two brands, Trophy Lager and Beta Malt, the company has, over the years, introduced Grand Malt, Castle Lite, Eagle Stout, Eagle Lager and Hero Lager.

Budweiser hits the ground running, on its introduction in July, 2018.

In July, 2018, the company introduced the internationally renowned premium lager, Budweiser into the Nigerian market, to coincide with the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Budweiser did not waste any time in quickly earning itself the top spot as Nigeria’s fastest-selling premium lager.

Gateway Breweries

In August 2018, the company launched its fourth brewery, the Gateway Brewery. Located in Sagamu in Ogun State, the brewery entailed an investment in excess of N90billion. Not surprisingly, it is the biggest brewery in West Africa and one of the biggest in Africa. Gateway Brewery has considerably helped to ensure round-the-clock availability of our brands to our cherished consumers.
